Senior Dog Care

The Pet Health Care that Your Senior Dog Deserves

Our entire team at Wantagh Animal Hospital is here to help your dog through every stage of life—from their curious and playful puppy years, to their golden senior years. Our veterinarians recommend that all senior pets receive two wellness exams per year to ensure that joints, bones, heart condition, liver, and other organs all functioning properly.

As you know, dogs have a much faster aging process than humans, and you may see dramatic changes in as little as 3 to 6 months. Generally, larger breeds reach their senior stage at 5 to 6 years; medium-size breeds reach their senior stage at 8 to 9 years; and small-size breed reach their senior stage at 11 to 13 years.

During your senior dog’s wellness exams, our veterinarians will be able to detect, treat, and diagnose any and all conditions before they worsen and become serious problems. Age-related changes are a part of living with a senior pet, and we are here to help you make your dog as comfortable as possible—providing you with tips and all of the information necessary to do so. Together, we can ensure that your pet’s senior years are the best to come.
